Sigenergy has identified issues with AC plugs on a small number of single phase 8/10/12kW inverters due to incorrect installation, and are working closely with electrical regulators to address this. They’ve updated the AC plug design to match their three phase models, and all affected inverters will be proactively replaced at no cost to customers, with installers paid $500 per unit if they choose to complete the swaps themselves. A firmware update has already been applied to online systems to prevent overheating, and offline systems will be prioritized for replacement. Customers will also receive an additional 2-year inverter warranty. Please see below updated models and scroll down to see full Sigenergy Statement.

Reason the product is recalled

The AC plugs may overheat and become damaged, posing a risk of fire.

The hazards to consumers

If an overheating AC plug should lead to a fire, it could result in property damage, serious injury or death. Incidents have occurred. No property damage, injuries or deaths have been reported.

What consumers should do

  1. Consumers should ensure their systems are connected to the internet so they can receive a firmware update. This allows Sigenergy to update and monitor each system proactively and temporarily reduce the AC output if the product is operating at sustained full load. This prevents the AC plug from overheating and becoming damaged. All affected products that are online have already received the firmware update.
  2. Consumers will receive a free replacement product that has an updated AC plug. Consumers will be contacted by their retailer or Sigenergy Australia service partner to arrange replacements.
  3. Sigenergy will also provide affected customers with an additional 2-year warranty on the product.

For more information, consumers should contact Sigenergy Australia Pty Ltd via email at [email protected] or visit https://www.sigenergy.com/au/ac-replacement/end-user

Sigenergy Installer statement regarding single phase 8/10/12kW Energy Controllers (inverters)

We are writing to inform you of some important updates regarding our single phase 8/10/12kW Energy Controllers (inverters).

There has been an issue with a small number of damaged AC plugs on a subset of inverter models.

There have been minor installation issues with these AC plugs.

This has been confirmed by Sigenergy engineers who have attended sites where AC plugs have failed. It was found that these systems were not installed as per Sigenergy installation instructions. We have documented evidence of these instances and supplied them to the electrical regulators.

We value our installation partners and know how much our customers rely on you to access our products and we will work together with you to address these issues.

Please know that we take this matter extremely seriously.

We have been working closely and collaboratively with the State Electrical Regulators and other relevant authorities to progress our investigations, and we have developed a suitable plan to ensure that end users, installers and all relevant parties have a positive and safe experience with Sigenergy products.

The issue only applies to our single phase 8/10/12kW energy controllers, which have a different style AC plug that requires the use of ferrules and crimping.

To assist installers on future installs we have updated the AC plug on single phase 8/10/12kW inverters so that they align with those used on our three phase inverters. This type of AC plug does not require the use of ferrules or crimping.

We are working with installers to proactively replace affected inverters with a new version that has an updated AC plug. There will not be any cost to customers for this replacement.

Installers will have the option of replacing each inverter on the products they have installed themselves, in which case we will pay $500 per replacement, or we will replace them directly through our Sigenergy Service Partners.

Our priority is the customer. All single phase 8/10/12kW inverters that are online have already received a firmware update which allows us to monitor each system proactively. If our system detects sustained full power output of the inverter, it will temporarily reduce the AC output to prevent the AC plug from overheating and becoming damaged, in the event that it has not been correctly installed.

This should only affect a small number of installed 8/10/12kW single phase inverters and is a temporary precautionary measure in case they have not been installed as per Sigenergy installation instructions. Once the inverter is replaced, this limit will be removed.

Systems that are not connected to the internet and have not received the firmware update will be replaced as a top priority.  We have full details of disconnected systems for tracking purposes and are conducting daily checks to ensure the firmware update is applied, should these systems connect to the internet.

We will also provide affected customers with an additional 2-year warranty on the inverter – at no cost. We will provide further details about this at that time.

Please note that you cannot continue installing inverters with the current AC plug design (these are the plugs that require ferrules).  We will advise when inverter stock with the new AC plug design is available and approved for new installations. We’ll have further updates later this week.

We are systematically working through inverter replacements. You will receive a ticket in the mySigen app with detailed instructions regarding any replacements assigned to you. You will then have the option to accept or pass on to our Sigenergy service partner who can carry out the work on your behalf.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our customer care team at [email protected]

Thanks for your support, understanding and patience during this process.
